In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces killed two terrorists at Wampora in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district in the wee hours today.
Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Srinagar, Col. Rajesh Kalia said that a joint team of Kulgam Police, 01 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation in Wampora village yesterday evening after getting a specific input about the presence of terrorists there.
Consequently, when the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon them triggering an encounter that resulted into killing of two local terrorists. The identity and affiliation of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter.
A case has been registered in police station Qaimoh and investigation in this regard has been initiated. Internet services has been snapped in Kulgam district as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, residents of Wampora were asked by the police authorities not to venture in the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive material.
Although bomb disposal squads of Kulgam Police have cleared the area of all stray explosives, people are requested to co-operate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared.
